Answer: Time for the answer. The picture was captured by an amateur photographer over Texas, on 1st February 2003. The fireballs are the debris from Space Shuttle Columbia, which had burst in to flames at the time of reentry in to the Earth's atmosphere. The India connection is Kalpana Chawla, who was a member of the mission crew and perished with all others.

Answer: The logo is that of the Dakar Car Rally.
The connection is Mark Thatcher.
In 1982, Mark Thatcher, son of the then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, along with his French co-driver Charlotte Verney and their mechanic, disappeared for six days. On January 9, the trio became separated from a convoy of vehicles after they stopped to make repairs to a faulty steering arm. They were declared missing on January 12; after a large-scale search, a Lockheed L100 search plane from the Algerian military spotted their white Peugeot 504 some 50 km (30 mi) off course. Thatcher, Verney and the mechanic were all unharmed.

Bruce Lee has been one of the heroes that a kid in my time looked up to. I was no different. So, tribute question on Lee for today's daily quiz.

When Bruce Lee's sudden death left a void in the martial art film industry of Hong Kong, many studios feared that a movie without their most famous star in it would not be financially successful. So some studios in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan decided to play on Lee's sudden international fame by making movies that vaguely sounded like Bruce Lee starring vehicles, with actors who looked like Lee changing their stage names to sound similar to "Bruce Lee", such as Bruce Li and Bruce Le.

How is this cultural phenomenon known as?

Answer: The answer is "Bruceploitation". The word is a portmanteau of the name "Bruce" and exploitation.
Unfortunately, nobody came up with the right answer to this question.

From now on, the quizzes on Sundays will be published under Bloody Sunday tag. And, for the first question under this, I turn to the very happening Sujay Ghosh & Vidya Balan. Its again a visual question for the daily quiz.

The image on the right side was the very first poster released for the movie Kahaani starring Vidya Balan. The picture shows a seven months pregnant Vidya as the Goddess Durga and was inspired by a painting by a famous Indian from the early twentieth century.

All you have to do is identify the painter (and if possible, the painting too) who had created the original.

This particular poster was inspired by the painting Pratima Visharjan by Gaganendranath Tagore, who was one of the painters behind the style commonly known as The Bengal School of Art. It was painted in the year 1915 and captures the hues and ambience of Kolkata during Vijaya Dashami, which is more commonly known as Dussera and is the last day of the festivities associated with Durga Puja, the most important festival in Kolkata. On this day, the idols of Devi Durga are immersed in to the river with the common belief being that the Goddess, along with her family, goes back to her home after spending four days and nights at her parents' place.

Answer: These gentlemen are Lakota Indian chief Sitting Bull on the left of the picture and Buffalo Bill.
Sitting Bull led his group of Indians to famous victories over General Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn and over the 7th Cavalry subsequently. Buffalo Bill, born William Frederick Cody, is regarded as the creator of the Wild West Show, which ran very successfully during the late 19th century United States of America.

Answer: Hats off to Amit Pathak for cracking this!
The person on the left is Nathan Alexander Blake, a former international professional footballer from Wales.
The person on the right side is Hermann Hreiðarsson, an Icelandic international footballer, who currently plays as a Defender for Coventry City.
Blake and Hermann share the dubious distinction of having been relegated from the Premier League the most number of times - five apiece.  Blake's teams were relegated in 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004, while Hermann was part of the Crystal Palace squad for the 1997–98 season, Wimbledon in the 1999–2000 season, Ipswich Town in the 2001–02 season, Charlton Athletic in the 2006–07 season and Portsmouth in the 2009–10 season, all of which were relegated at the end of the respective seasons.

This Bengali gentleman, was a scholar in Physics and Biosciences. One of his works in Physics/Communication is thought to be completed earlier than the corresponding/similar ones in the Western Countries. His student, another Indian Physicist, can never be forgotten in the field of Particle Physics and is best known for his work on Quantum Mechanics in the early 1920s.

Answer: Mr. K. G. Badlani has the unique distinction of serving as the Prime Minister of the Free State of Dadra & Nagar Haveli for one day.

Dadra & Nagar Haveli was liberated from Portuguese Rulers by people themselves on 2nd August 1954. They established Free Administration of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Mr. Badlani was sent by the Govt. of India to act as the Administrator. After Goa was liberated, Mr. Badlani was accorded the status of Prime Minister for a day, so that he could sign the instrument of accession with the then Indian Prime Minister Nehru as an equal. On completion of these formalities, the territory was finally merged in to Union of India in the year 1961.

Identify the footballer from the first part of the 20th century. He has a unique feat that has not been achieved by anyone else till date and with the present FIFA eligibility rules, very unlikely to be achieved by anyone else in the future too.

Answer: He is Luis Monti, a midfielder. He had played for Argentina in 1930 Jules Rimet Cup final match against Uruguay and ended up on the losing side. However, in 1934, as a person of Italian origin, he represented Italy in the world cup and in the final, his team defeated Czechoslovakia by a margin of 2 - 1. 

With the current FIFA representation guidelines, anyone who has played for a country at the senior level, will not be eligible to represent another country at senior level competitions. Hence, it is very unlikely that Monty's record will be broken in future too!
